Josh Brown

The Surrey Youth Motorcycle Trials Sports Club held the second round of The Chris Norman Shield at their home ground at Brackendene, conditions were dry and dusty whilst the sun shone down making it hot work for the 37 riders. Clerk of the course Steve Moore had introduced some new variations to the eight sections which were ridden four times in a clockwise direction around the disused ornamental gardens utilising the banks, rockery, Fairy Grotto and rubble piles.

Twelve-year-old Josh Brown lost a solitary dab whilst exiting the grotto on the stream bank at section three but was otherwise as sweet as sugar and took victory in the Support Class, he was followed home by another twelve-year-old Taylor Barnell who lost most of his marks on the rocky steps of the fountain at section five. Ten-year-old Joseph Baker riding up a route for the first time took third place and struggled with the tight turns round the laurel buses at section four but did manage 2 cleans, Ella Cashman took fourth place with four-wheel perfect rides at section two on the banks of the back of the BMX track.

There was a tie for first place in the Beginners class between ten-year-olds Phoebe Barnell and Charles Rose who both rode the entire course without putting a foot down, six-year-old George Campling lost a solitary dab snaking amongst the concrete slabs at section one to finish third. Eight-year-old Leo Grover in his first ride with the club was fourth riding a very tasty electric TRS machine, feet up rides by Leo at section seven at Hitty’s Hill.

Six riders managed to ride the entire Novice route without penalty, eight-year-olds Jack Holdsworth and Harry Hawyes, ten-year-old Daisy-Mai Mitchell, twelve years old Blake Miles and Connor Johnson plus fourteen-year-old Ella Barron. Twelve-year-old Leon Barron lost a solitary dab over the low lying trees and exposed roots of section six whereas Riley Maryon and Bradley Sims lost a couple of dabs each.

The third round of the club’s Chris Norman Novice & Beginner Shield will be held on Saturday 10th July back at Brackendene with kickstart time at 2pm, new members and spectators are now welcome; for further details contact Eddie Renham 01784 452225.
